Daily Lectio Divina: The New Rule

Repost of Episode 109

In this episode of the guided lectio divina podcast, we’re using a selection from Rumi’s poem “The New Rule.”

This that is tormented and very tired
tortured with restraints like a madman,
this heart.
Still you keep breaking the shell
to get the taste of its kernel!

Repost of Episode 107

In this episode of the guided lectio divina podcast, we’re using a selection from Rumi’s poem “Special Plates.”

Notice how each particle moves.
Notice how everyone has just arrived here
from a journey.
Notice how each wants a different food.
Notice how the stars vanish as the sun comes up,
and how all streams stream toward the ocean.

Daily Lectio Divina: A Community of the Spirit

Daily Lectio Divina: A Community of the Spirit

While we move 1,800 miles to our new home in Kansas, the Daily Lectio Divina podcast will be on hiatus.  Please enjoy a reposting of last year’s series on selections from Rumi’s poems. One of my favorites! We’ll resume brand new episodes on July 11th.

Repost of Episode 106

In this episode of the guided lectio divina podcast, we’re using a selection from Rumi’s poem “A Community of the Spirit.”

Be empty of worrying.
Think of who created thought!

Why do you stay in prison
when the door is so wide open?

Move outside the tangle of fear-thinking.
Live in silence.

Flow down and down in always
widening rings of being.

Episode 120

In this episode of the guided lectio divina podcast, we’re using a selection from Rumi’s poem “In Baghdad, Dreaming of Cairo: In Cairo, Dreaming of Baghdad.”

Either this deep desire of mine
will be found on this journey,
or when I get back home!

It may be that the satisfaction I need
depends on my going away, so that when I’ve gone
and come back, I’ll find it at home.

In this episode of the guided lectio divina podcast, we’re using a selection from Rumi’s poem “Body Intelligence.”

There are guides who can show you the way.
Use them. But they will not satisfy your longing.

Keep wanting that connection
with all your pulsing energy

The throbbing vein
will take you further
than any thinking.

Daily Lectio Divina: New Moon, Hilal

Daily Lectio Divina: New Moon, Hilal

Episode 116

In this episode of the guided lectio divina podcast, we’re using a selection from Rumi’s poem “New Moon, Hilal.”

A new moon teaches gradualness
and deliberation and how one gives birth
to oneself slowly. Patience with small details
makes perfect a large work, like the universe.

What nine months of attention does for an embryo
forty early mornings will do
for your gradually growing wholeness.

Daily Lectio Divina: Childhood Friends

Daily Lectio Divina: Childhood Friends

Episode 115

In this episode of the guided lectio divina podcast, we’re using a selection from Rumi’s poem “Childhood Friends.”

Trust your wound to a teacher’s surgery.
Flies collect on a wound. They cover it,
those flies of your self-protecting feelings,
your love for what you think is yours.

Let a teacher wave away the flies
and put a plaster on the wound.

Don’t turn your head. Keep looking
at the bandaged place. That’s where
the light enters you.
And don’t believe for a moment
that you’re healing yourself.
