Daily Lectio Divina: Let Me Be to Thee as a Circling Bird

Episode 498

In this episode of the guided lectio divina podcast, we’re continuing our Lenten series in partnership with Formation Foundations, a guided reflection series for Common House. This week, we’re further exploring the posture of grace and its “unforced rhythms.” We’re gleaning from the wisdom of Jesuit poet Gerard Manley Hopkins this week, and today we’re reading a selection from “Let Me Be to Thee as a Circling Bird.”

…The authentic cadence was discovered late
Which ends those only strains that I approve,
And other science all gone out of date
And minor sweetness scarce made mention of:
I have found the dominant of my range and state –
Love, O my God, to call Thee Love and Love.
